TEVIOT RANGERS RUNNERS UP

AFC Lewisham took part in the Teviot Mini Tournament with 7 teams. There was 2 group, with the top 2 teams from each group will progress to knockouts .

Baldon Sports were our first challenge, which started of as a 50/50 game then Harvey scoring in the last 5 minutes. The boys struggled to get into the game.

Going on to face Our Lady Youth, we just couldn’t seem to finish, with Isaiah hitting the crossbar 4 times in that match & a few top class saves from our keeper Mikey we lost only 1-0 but it wasn’t over,

Teviot Orange was put in-front of us and it was time , the boys performed a class of football. From the first whistle they was hungry to win. James our new signing scored a hat trick , as time went on we allowed one in but the boys retaliated with one more goal. The matched ended 4-1 & we finished top of our table.

The semi finals came & we played against the runners up of the other group which was TDA U13s. The match started you could see that both teams was desperate to make an impact. Isaiah was taking on players with strength on and off the ball, Reece and Rashai’s were tracking back all the time! Manny was throwing himself in front of shots, our back 3 Churchill, Lewis & Nelson was as solid as a rock. We finally got our goal in the second half & went on to win the match 1-0.

AFC lewisham vs Teviot U14’s in the final, I could see that boys were tired and it was a slow start . Again, Isaiah hit the crossbar & post. A couple one on one chances kicked at the keeper. The match ended 0-0, which resulted to penalties. They took first & missed, Isaiah then missed, they scored then Reece missed, they then missed, Harvey took next and missed, they followed next and missed, James stepped up and missed. It was the all important final penalty from their captain. He scored, they won 2-0 on penalties.

I was proud of the boys considering the long day, how hard they battled, how well they played & how much determination they showed to get to the finals. The person that impressed me the most was Young Nelson, he had a terrific tournament & played outstanding. He played in a position he wasn’t use to and done a fantastic job. I couldn’t be any more proud of him and the rest of the squad.
