What can be best described as carnival-esque atmosphere where the children from both sets of teams performed continuous Mexican waves, kids parading their favourite player on the back of their shirt......woops wrong report!
It was AFC Lewisham’s Annual Parents versus Coaches fundraising game. Both sides came along with family to support ACTION MEDICAL RESEARCH and ultimately, it was a chance for the parents to get one over the coaches.
The game started out in pedestrian fashion with the coaches assessing the Parent’s key players, the coaches slowly got a foot in the game and with their first meaningful attack; registered the first goal of game through a scuffed shot by Nyore after good work from Willam on the right flank. William was a constant threat with his youthfulness cut in from the right and shot where the ball pin balled in the Parents penalty area before falling at the feet of Manny and he dispatched expertly. With the first half drawing to a close and the parents missing some guilt edged chases as well as a penalty, they finally got off the mark from a corner kick where (parent) got in-between Shingi and William. Immediately after conceding the goal, the coaches restored the 2 goal lead with excellent work on right hand side and Martino scored at the back post with an overhead kick.
The second half kicked off with both teams playing end to end and the parents got back into the game through good work on the left side with Chris and he played a great ball in for Alika to get his name on the scoresheet. The coaches went up a gear and put bed to any thoughts of a comeback with Ryan scoring from good pressing and William scoring after a good passage of passing. The parents continued to attack and were hit on the counter attack with Tony finally getting the ball into the net with a superb half volley. The coaches took the same formula with their fourth goal winning the ball and breaking with speed. Nyore played a defence splitting pass for Taps who cheekily chipped the on rushing goalkeeper to cement a victory for the coaches.
The game ended with the coaches winning the game and taking home the trophy, the parents will have another opportunity next season and time to ponder how they can win next season.
